For an authentic Japanese-style Inn but with a casual vibe, the Ryokan Shimizu is the place to be. It is a 2-story modern Ryokan with 10 Japanese-style rooms and each guest room has its own private bath and toilet. There are also free shared baths for both women and men (same gender only). All of the  guest rooms use clean and traditional Japanese-style tatami mats (woven-straw floors) and futon mattresses are laid out at night for a comfortable sleep. Ryokan Shimizu is conveniently located within walking distance of Kyoto Station, which is both the gateway to the city and main subway station and bus terminal for visiting all the major tourist spots around town.
